Lambton College Digital Photography offering $500 memorial entrance award to an incoming student

Sarnia, ON, March 31, 2014 - Students entering Lambton College’s Digital Photography program will have the opportunity to compete for a $500 entrance award at the College’s annual Open House this Saturday, April 5.
The Geri Freeborn Memorial Entrance Award was created by program faculty in honour of a former Digital Photography student who passed away suddenly in January 2013. At age 57, Freeborn was the oldest student to enroll in the College’s Digital Photography program. She has been remembered as a hard working student who was creatively driven. In fact, a month after her passing, faculty were advised that one of her photographs had been selected as a finalist in a national competition that garnered 17,000 entries.
Program faculty are hoping to honour Freeborn’s memory by granting this award to a student who demonstrates that same creative promise.
Students enrolled in the Digital Photography program for September 2014 will have the opportunity to present their photography portfolio in person to program faculty during the College’s Open House. Each student will be allowed to present a minimum of six (maximum of 12) photographs for review. In addition to being judged based on their eye for creativity and their craft, students must also demonstrate a passion for photography.
Photos can be presented in electronic or print format. If being presented in an electronic format, photos must be presented on a laptop computer, tablet, or loaded onto a memory stick (smartphones are not permitted). All images must be high resolution quality and jpeg format.
Portfolio viewings will be held during the Lambton College Open House on Saturday, April 5, 2014 which takes place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  A tour of the photo studio and a presentation of the program will be held at both 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. with portfolio presentations to follow each tour.
Interested applicants can register a portfolio viewing for either time slot by contacting Richard Beland, Program Coordinator at richard.beland@lambtoncollege.ca.
Select spots still remain in Lambton College’s Digital Photography program for September 2014.
